Good Things Come Small, Review: Baked by Melissa

This weekend as I was coming home from the gym, and I stumbled upon Baked by Melissa. Now I don’t suggest that you go to the gym and go buy a cupcake after but sometimes a little spontaneity never hurt anyone.

Just when I thought someone couldn’t find a new take on cupcakes, Melissa did. When I walked in I was greeted by hundreds bite sized cupcakes. They were so tiny and had some very unique flavors. Currently the flavors at Baked by Melissa are: Mint Chocolate Chip, Tie-Dye, Cookies & Cream, Cookie Dough, Peanut Butter Cup, Cinnamon, Peanut Butter and Jelly, Red Velvet, and Smores. She is currently working on expanding the menu and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with. I tried:

  1. Peanut Butter and Jelly
  2. Mint Chocolate Chip
  3. Cookies and Cream
  4. Cookie Dough
  5. Tie-Dye
  6. Cinnamon

I can not complain about any cupcake, I loved them all. I actually really enjoyed Peanut Butter and Jelly even though it is not your typical cupcake and while I was in the store it was a very popular cupcake.

Each cupcake is about the size of a quarter, the perfect bite size cupcake. But the debate is on, is just one bite enough? Some say yes it is and others do not agree. I have to admit I got 6 different ones to try, I ate them very quickly and could easily eat more.

I contacted Baked by Melissa to find out their nutrition information because it is currently not listed. I got a quick response back and they said they are currently working on getting the nutrition information but they estimate each cupcake is between 70-90 calories. Which is kind of a lot considering how small they are, but they are amazing and I highly suggest that you try them. Just don’t go too crazy. Right now she does not offer any gluten-free or organic products but if I hear of anything in the future I will let you know.

Baked by Melissa currently has two locations: Soho (529 Broadway between Mercer and Broadway) and Union Square (7 East 14th Street between 5th and Union Square W.). As for prices her cupcakes are a $1 each but the price goes down the more you buy. A $1 for this little cupcake is quite expensive but these are really good and I know I will be going back to buy them for my friends and for special occasions. She also offers catering so you can have your own custom mini cupcakes for events you may have coming up. Baked by Melissa may be a little pricey but I love her new take on cupcakes, I can’t wait to see how she grows her business in the future.
