Review: Kettlebells with Richard Lehman

Richard Lehman is a National Strength and Conditioning Association Strength and Conditioning specialist, a KettleBell Concepts Kettlebell instructor, and holds a certificates with TRX, Powerhouse Pilates Mat, Mad Dogg Athletics Spinning, and is a Bodybar Master Trainer.

He is currently holding classes at SHOCKra studios and I was fortunate enough to try one of his classes last night. I had never been to SHOCKra Studios, it was located right off the 6 train on 28th Avenue. SHOCKra has a very interesting set up, it is in a bunch of different apartments located on the second floor. Richard’s class is located in 2D. Talking to some of his students that have taken his classes before had nothing but nice things to say about him. And after meeting him, I understand why. Richard has a great energy. He constantly keeps your mood and energy up during class. He was extremely helpful throughout the entire class, since I was new he made sure to go over the correct way to handle a KettleBell each time we did a new exercise.

KettleBells are great! The class was full of squats, lunges and arm strengthening exercises. There was even a section for abs. I loved the KettleBells since I have very poor arm strength I found these to be the perfect complement to that problem, it worked muscles in my arm I had never felt before. I enjoyed how Richard lead the class, he mixed up the exercises and kept me interested throughout the entire hour. I was constantly sweating and everyone in the class looked like they were getting a great workout. One guy in particular kept making me laugh, with his added sound effects. There were about 8 students in the class which was a great size, it gave us enough individual attention. I hope I can take more KettleBell classes in the future, my arms and legs are killing me today! If you are interested in taking a class he will be holding complimentary classes at SHOCKra studio this Saturday, February 27th at 11:30am; Tuesday, Saturday, March 2 at 6:00pm; and Saturday, March 6th at 11:30AM. Please email Richard at complimentyourbody@gmail.com to reserve you spot, it’s free how can you go wrong!

Overall I was not impressed by SHOCKra Studios but that is just the space Richard is holding his classes in. The location is great so that is a plus. Richard is a great instructor, I think anyone would enjoy his class. If you are doing a lot of cardio and need some strength and toning this would be a great class to try. He offers 6 week courses for $157.30 which comes out to be about $26 a class which is normal for a class in New York City. If you want to find out more about Richard or other services he offers check out his website.
