I stumbled upon Liquiteria while walking to Tully’s Gluten Free Bakery. Liquiteria is located in the East Village at 170 Second Ave at 11th Street. You can get to it easily from the 6 Train (Astor Place) or the L (1st Ave). Apparently Liquiteria is one of New York’s best kept secrets. It is also Natalie Portman’s favorite Juice Bar. It was established in 1996 and is the healthy alternative to Jamba Juice. All of their ingredients are organic and fresh and they make amazing fresh pressed juices. Prices are steeper but for what you are getting I think it is very reasonable.
Liquiteria offers: Pressed Juices (which remind me of the juices in the Blue Print Cleanse), Smoothies, Miracle Juices, Fresh-Squeezed Juices, Refreshers, Hot Drinks, Breakfast items (oatmeal, energy bars, and granola) and Sandwiches/wraps. You can view their full menu here. All juices are made daily!
Today I tried the Peaches-n-Dream Smoothie which is made with: peaches, strawberries, bananas, cinnamon, apple cider, aloe vera, and energy memory (which fights fatigue & rebuilds essential energy). It was really good, I liked the spice that the cinnamon added to the smoothie. As for the energy memory it gave me a little boost. The one thing I noticed about all their juices and smoothies were the color. The colors of every drink were vibrant and they made them right in front of you, using all fresh fruit and ingredients.
I also got to try my friend’s smoothie called Full Meal Power which had: bananas, strawberries, apple cider, and ultimate meal powder (which they say contains every nutrient for health). This was really good but you can taste the powder which reminds me of whey protein. It also leaves you with a bit of an after taste. So if you do not like that I wouldn’t recommend this smoothie.
Since their pressed juices seemed to be the most popular sellers (people would buy them in bulk quantity) I decided to try one and I went for the one I thought I would least enjoy, All Greens with apple, lemon, and ginger. All Greens contains: kale, spinach, romaine, parsley, celery, cucumber, apple, lemon, & ginger. After taking my first sip I was pleasantly surprised. It was really good, it tasted very fresh and had an extra kick to it due to the ginger. I really enjoyed it.
The location is not bad at all and the shop is really colorful and nice on the inside. They offer free delivery with an order minimum of $10.00. They offer limited seating but most of their business is take-out. All the staff is extremely helpful and can hook you up with the right juice based on how you are feeling (sick, hung over, ect). So if you are in the area and searching for something healthy I suggest you check Liquiteria out. I can not wait to go back and try the other pressed juices. Once I try more I will updated you on what my favorite ones are.
