Review: Dogmatic Restaurant

Dogmatic Restaurant, formerly  known as Dogmatic Gourmet Sausage System is located in Union Square. They started as a simple street cart and now have grown into a restaurant. They have some amazing sausages and serve them in a very unique way.

“ Welcome to Dogmatic Gourmet Sausage System.  We offer the finest street food served in a restaurant environment. Our handcrafted sausages, grilled to order, have no hormones, no antibiotics, no nitrates, no artificial flavors or colors and are naturally low in fat. But they do have an authentic flavor and a unique vertically designed shape, perfect for enjoying them on the go or on the stay. For the vegetarian, we offer spears of locally sourced organic asparagus — the sausage of the vegetable kingdom.”

The restaurant is a little hard to find because it is located right off the Northwest point of Union Square on 17th Street. But is easy to get to from any train that stops in Union Square. Walking into the restaurant looks like you are walking into a kitchen “as the butcher block table is the main focus at the center of the restaurant.”  There is an amazing mural on the side wall, that if you decide to go, you should take a look at. The menu is very simple they offer 5 different sausages (Beef, Chicken, Pork, Turkey, and lamb) and asparagus’s for the vegatarians. The sausages are served in artisan bread that you can choose not to have if you are looking for a low carb option and then paired with your choice of sauce (Cheddar Jalapeno, Horseradish Mustard, Truffle Gruyere, Chimichurri, Sun Dried Tomato Feta, and Mint Yogurt). My favorite sausage is the turkey and I normally get it with Cheddar Jalapeno or Horseradish Mustard. It is amazing! If you are looking for the healthiest option I would go with a Turkey Sausage and the Horseradish sauce or the asparagus with the horseradish mustard. I also heard they may be expanding the menu, so keep checking back!

The offer some amazing sides, my favorite is their Tomato Salad, which is cherry tomatoes with an garlic oil/basil dressing but they also have great macaroni and cheese, grilled asparagus, and coleslaw. For drinks they make handmade sodas which are made with fresh fruit puree, syrup mixes and carbonated water. I tried the lemon lime flavor which I was not a fan of but they have other great flavors.

If you are ever in Union Square go to Dogmatic and give it a try, it is reasonably inexpensive ($4.50 for the gourmet sausages, $3.00 for the sides). It is really good and I think you will enjoy it! Let me know what combination you try!
